Towards cost-effective soil microbial fuel cell designs

چکیده
Soil microbial fuel cell (SMFC) is a carbon-neutral energy harvesting technology that exploits the use of electroactive bacteria naturally present in soil to directly generate electricity from organic compounds. Given simplicity system design, SMFCs have great potential be used for decentralised solutions, especially areas where access conventional sources limited. Yet, high cost power ratio severely limits translation this into market. With aim reducing capital cost, study we explore effect decreasing amounts current collector (CC) on performance. The results demonstrate increasing amount per surface area electrode not feasible way enhancing densities, as increase performance by 20% and 35%, would increased 150% 300%, respectively. This highlights importance economic evaluations when optimising design SMFC.

Improved Performance of Soil Microbial Fuel Cell by Adding Earthworms
Soil microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) are expected as an application to produce sustainable energy. Here, we focused on soil ecosystems, specifically the earthworms which are known to improve soil-fertility by degrading fallen leaves or plant litter. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of earthworm on power generation of the SMFC. The maximum power density and the internal res...

The main disadvantage of biodiesel is its high price. The price of biodiesel depends on various factors such as the price of oil, methanol, catalyst, and labor. Among dif-ferent economic factors, oil accounts for the largest share of input costs of biodiesel production. In this study, first, suitable heterogeneous catalysts were identified for biodiesel production. Several studies were carried ...

Biofilms of natural anaerobic microbial consortia externally grown on Gas Diffusion Electrodes (GDL) in a bioreactor, were investigated within a MembraneElectrode-Assembly with respect to lifetime and electricity production upon variation of biodegradable materials with an oxygen demand of 1000mg/l as simulated waste water. A remarkable differentiation and plasticity of the films is observed, t...
متن کاملElectrokinetic and Sediment Remediation in Microbial Fuel Cell (RESEARCH NOTE)
Recently developed man-made structures have caused environmental pollutions, and unfortunately, in spite of the deteriorating affairs and repeated warnings by scientists and experts, the degree of contamination is increasing considerably. One of the natural sources undergoing changes is the coasts. It is mainly due to human activities which have led to a change in the quality and quantity of se...
